In Summary

Conjestina had earlier relapsed after initially recovering from her condition.

Former boxing champion Conjestina Achieng will remain at a Mombasa rehabilitation centre despite making a recovery, according to former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Speaking on her current status, Sonko said that although she has improved, she will not be returning to her rural home in Siaya.

Instead, the ex-boxer has now secured a paid position at the facility where she has been undergoing treatment.

Sonko explained that this decision is aimed at helping her stay grounded and maintain her recovery journey in a stable environment.

"The God of another chance has again done wonders. Former international boxer Conjestina Achieng, AKA Conjee, has fully recovered after relapsing. However, this time around, she's not going back to the village. She will be working at the Mombasa Women's Rehabilitation Empowerment Centre with a salary," said Sonko.

He expressed confidence in her progress and noted the importance of this fresh start.

"We are proud of her progress. Her journey is a testimony that recovery is possible, even after setbacks. We wish Conjee all the best in this new beginning and continue to keep her in our prayers."

Conjestina had earlier relapsed after initially recovering from her condition.

Following the setback, Sonko took her back to the Mombasa rehabilitation facility, where she has since shown steady improvement.

The relapse was linked to her return to familiar surroundings in her home area, which Sonko said exposed her to negative influences from her past.

Before the relapse, she had been working as a bouncer at one of Sonko’s entertainment venues. Now, she is starting anew with renewed focus and purpose.

Speaking about her situation, Conjestina said she is happy to be in a better place mentally and physically. She acknowledged the reality of relapse in recovery but said she feels stronger and more optimistic.

"I relapsed, but now I am okay, and I work with Mama Amin, especially on the women's rescue team as a bodyguard in collaboration with Mike Sonko, who has really helped me, and I thank him. Relapse is a normal thing, and if you believe in God, everything is going to be okay," she said.

She added that she is grateful to be employed at the centre where she received treatment and is now part of a support team for women undergoing care.

"I trust in God, and I believe everything will be okay on my side. I am now taking care of women who are being treated here, and I will also be working with Mama Amina Rescue Team whenever they will be going for assignments outside," she added.
